Health Care (click here to return to the Home Page)
If one thing can be
learned from the debate enveloping Washington, and the country, as of late,
it’s that government, in and of itself, is not capable of, nor interested in
reducing the actual cost of health care or improving the quality of
healthcare for the American public – partisan rhetoric to the contrary
notwithstanding. There was once a time in
our country’s not-so-distant past when it was morally imperative that we keep
in place a health care system based on the simple and common sense premise
that a person’s healthcare choices should be made between an individual and
his or her physician. Well, the Democrats
promised us “change” and they’re delivering on that promise, pushing for more
governmental intrusion into our health care choices and our lifestyles,
increasing our tax burden, and doing everything in their power to run private
health care insurance companies out of business. The fact that they’re
willing to do this through the use of taxpayer-funded bribes and kickbacks to
their fellow lawmakers, while meeting behind closed doors and shattering any
illusion that may have once existed of their desire to work in a bipartisan
fashion, speaks volumes. The American People were
promised the most open, ethical and transparent Congress in our country’s
history, and got nothing of the sort in return for handing the reins of power
to the Democrats in Washington and allowing them to control our country’s
legislative agenda. No longer do the leaders
of the Democrat Party believe that patients, in consult with their doctors
should be free to make their own decisions. The rallying cry of “My body, my
choice!” has outlived its usefulness and is being shown the door. Government
czars, accountable only to the powers that be (and their faceless political
financiers) will be taking over our decision-making process, if the
“progressive” wing of the Democrat party has its way. It is imperative that
we, as a free and sovereign state, respect and defend an individual’s right
to make his or her own healthcare choices and do everything we can to ensure
that those choices, made in a market-based system, will be of greater benefit
to the individual than to the special interest groups greasing the skids down
in Washington D.C., pushing us ever closer to an unaffordable, socialistic,
government-controlled health care system. Adding layer upon layer
of bureaucratic red tape, at considerable taxpayer expense, to our healthcare
system serves only to increase the power of government over our lives and
transfer more money from the wallets of the taxpayer to the pockets of the
well-financed special interest groups (insurance and pharmaceutical
companies) and their lobbyists. This money would then
come full circle as it makes its way back into the re-election campaigns of
big-government politicians looking to turn New Hampshire into New
Massachusetts, and to transform our vibrant, capitalist economy into one that
more closely resembles the dreary stagnation of eastern European-style
socialism. While serving the people
of Brentwood, I will be an unwavering voice in support of free market
solutions that help to both lower the cost of health care to the consumer and
encourage the kind of technological innovations that have made this country’s
health care system second to none. ~ Bruce |
